In the same film – one step further, News
The Metamedia Association has implemented the project “In the same film – a step towards culture” with the aim of raising awareness about the need for more inclusive cultural content for children and young people with developmental disabilities. Through two creative workshops, participants created a short animated film “Sea Heroes” which will be screened on August 16th at King Tomislav Square and on August 18th in Šijana, on the meadow between the blue and yellow skyscrapers starting at 9 pm, as part of the “Cinema in the Neighborhood” project.
The project “In the same film – a step towards culture” highlights not only the physical inaccessibility of cultural content, but also its content and sensory inappropriateness for this vulnerable group. Through various activities, the Metamedia Association is dedicated to sensitizing the public and creating opportunities to raise awareness of the need for more inclusive cultural content. In this way, the project advocates for the adaptation of cultural institutions, organizations and individuals that offer cultural content, providing specific instructions and guidelines for the adaptation of the environment and content.
One of the most significant activities within the project were two creative workshops intended for students with developmental disabilities from Pula. The first workshop, led by Vibor and Vjeran Juhas, focused on the basics of stop animation and different types of animated films. Special attention was paid to the creation of the scenario, the design of characters and backgrounds, and the direction and editing. The participants were very active and interested, quickly adopting the basic and more advanced techniques of stop-motion animation.
The second workshop, called “Sound Factory”, led by Nenad Sinkauz, provided students with an insight into the process of creating music for a film. The workshop focused on the basics of improvised music and the dramaturgy of musical templates, with special attention paid to the technological aspect of music creation. The participants approached the task creatively and used their own ideas in a variety of ways to create an original musical background for the film.
Participation in these inclusive workshops enabled children and young people with developmental disabilities to express their creativity, which resulted in the final product – a short animated film titled Sea Heroes. The film lasts one minute and forty-five seconds and will enrich the program of the Public Institution Pula Film Festival as part of the “Neighborhood Cinema” project. This animated film, which was created by the workshop participants with the help of the facilitator, tells the story of underwater sea guardians who fight against pollution in order to protect the underwater world.
