Remix of Identity 10 – competition for remixes of Istrian traditional music and music of national minorities in Istria
On the tenth edition of the Remix of Identity project, the Metamedij Association and Metamusic studio, in cooperation with the Istrian Centre for Intangible Culture of the Ethnographical Museum of Istria, are announcing a new competition for musical remixes based on selected recordings of traditional music from Istria.
This year, we are celebrating the project’s decade by gathering the best works from previous editions and opening up space for new production. Representative audio material has been collected, which includes:
- two-part singing in narrow intervals of Istria and the Croatian Littoral
- musical heritage of the Hungarian, Roma, Italian and Bosniak minorities in Istria
- musical practice of the diatonic accordion (“triestine”)
- traditional audio recordings that have not been represented so far

The format for participation is new remixes of traditional musical materials – remixes of raw recordings, including rare performances from family and field archives.
Heritage as a living substance – reinterpreted through electronic, experimental and contemporary music production.
The planned release is a digital album and Bandcamp compilation, including an accompanying booklet.

Application deadline: 30.11. 2025.
Terms of Participation
– Contest participants must create remixes using elements of one of the listed songs.
– Remixes can be in any musical style, but it is important to retain recognizable elements of traditional material, such as original vocal or instrumental parts.
– The contest is open to everyone, regardless of musical experience.
Awards
A jury of experts, consisting of Milan Đurić, Noel Šuran and Marino Jurcan, will select the winner of the contest.
The cash prize for the winning entry is 250 euros.
The best entries submitted to the Contest will be published on a joint album and promoted via the Metamedij Association platforms.
How to Apply
Those interested can apply to participate in the contest via an online form. After completing the form, all applicants will be sent a link to download the remix material.
You can send your final works in WAV or MP3 format to the email address kontakt.radionice@gmail.com with the note “Identity Remix 10 – competition application”. To send large files, use services such as WeTransfer or Jumbo mail.
About the project “Remix of Identity”
“Remix of Identity” is a long-term music project of the Metamedij Association, implemented as part of Metamedia Lab and the music community studio Metamusic. The project explores the possibilities of communication between traditional and contemporary music and encourages dialogue between societies, cultures, traditions and historical periods through sound. The goal of the project is to preserve traditional music and pass it on to new generations in a contemporary context.
