Application Deadline: APRIL 7, 2025.
Summer Sessions are short-term international residencies designed for young artists and designers working at the intersection of art and technology. A network of cultural organizations around the world sponsors and hosts these residencies. Each summer, we offer support to artists and designers at the beginning of their careers to participate in production residencies abroad. The art project will be developed in a productive atmosphere with expert support, feedback, and mentorship. Each Summer Sessions residency lasts approximately eight weeks and takes place between July and September. During this period, the project will develop from concept to finished work, ready for exhibition.
Who can apply?
Applications are open to artists and designers working with art and technology who are (1) under 35 years of age and/or have graduated within the last five years and (2) live in a country with an existing Summer Sessions sponsoring partner. Participating partners are:
– V2_, Netherlands
– Schmiede, Austria
– Pina, Slovenia
– Museu Zer0 – Instituto Lusíada de Cultura, Portugal
– Marginal, Romania
– Sardegna Teatro, Italy
– Metamedia, Croatia
For additional information, please contact: info@summersessions.net or contact@metamedia.hr
Why should I apply?
Selected artists will gain access to the host institution’s facilities, expert support and an opportunity to present their work at a public event. A stipend will be provided that includes travel, accommodation, and material costs.
How to apply?
The application form is available at https://summersessions.net/apply, the deadline is April 7, 2025.
The requirement is a two-minute video explaining the project and how it will be realized during the Summer Sessions residency. There are no thematic restrictions or requirements. It is not advisable to send additional materials, written or otherwise. Selection will be made exclusively based on the video. The video should be uploaded to a service such as YouTube or Vimeo,* and then complete the online application, providing your personal details and the link to your video.
*YouTube allows you to mark a video as unlisted, meaning it cannot be accessed by anyone without the URL. Vimeo allows you to set a password to restrict viewing of your work.
All applications will be evaluated by mid-May, based on artistic quality (primarily aesthetics and originality) as well as feasibility and the connection between art and technology in the technical approach. Selected candidates will be matched with a host institution that suits the proposed project and will be invited to an online interview in mid-May, as part of the final selection process. The host institution will arrange practical details with candidates regarding dates, travel, accommodation, visas, etc.
The program is supported by the City of Pula, Istria County, and the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia.
