Remix of the identity of the Metamedij Association was presented at the SlowMotion Festival in Opatija

Metamedia Lab

On Friday and Saturday, May 30 and 31, the first edition of  SlowMotion was held in Opatija – a hybrid festival and conference format that brought together numerous cultural actors from Croatia and the region with the aim of networking, knowledge exchange, and creating space for future collaborations. The festival consisted of two program streams – the main stage ‘Učka’, featuring lectures, discussions, and screenings, and the relaxed stage ‘Lungomare’, intended for presenting organizations, projects, and initiatives

As part of the program  “Naprijed naši! 2. dio” on the Relaxed Stage, Marino Jurcan, president of the Metamedia Association from Pula, presented the project Remix of Identity – a music-educational program that has, for nine years, been exploring how to reinterpret traditional music through contemporary music production. During the presentation, the history of the project was shown through its nine editions, with a special focus on the most recent edition dedicated to the Vlach language, which includes remixed versions of the documented songs ‘Zis am folja’ and ‘Marice fę̨tice’. The audience had the opportunity to hear excerpts from the remixes, including the winning piece ‘Marice fę̨tice (pospano Remix)’ by Juraj Rebernjak, further illustrating the process of transforming forgotten heritage into a contemporary cultural product aimed at new generations.

Alongside Metamedij, the same program also featured Davor Pasarić (Peek&Poke), Jelena Androić (LFF Festival), as well as many other speakers over the two-day program: Edvin Liverić, Dražen Baljak, Enver Krivac, Jelena Fiškuš, Danijel Pek, Mara Prpić, Goran Lisica Fox, Kristian Benić, Anja Medved, Igor Bezinović, and others. SlowMotion was organized as an experimental space for the exchange of experiences among cultural organizations and individuals, with the aim of slowing down, listening, and creating more sustainable cultural practices. The festival demonstrated the potential to become an important meeting point for the cultural scene in the future.
