Summer Sessions 2022 – Brianna Leatherbury u HUiU galeriji
Izložba “Likvidacija” Brianne Leatherbury, rada razvijenog na rezidenciji Summer Sessions u ko-produkciji Udruge Metamedij i V2_ Lab for the Unstable Media, bit će otvorena u četvrtak, 01. rujna 2022. godine u 20 sati u pulskoj HUiU galeriji.
Rad “Likvidacija” Brianne Leatherbury sastoji se od site-specific instalacije i filma koji dokumentiraju nizozemsko izvlaštenje određenih povijesti i industrija putem nekretnina. Instalacija se sastoji od ovlaživača zraka za staklenike, koji je putem internetske licitacijske prodaje „obišao“ nekoliko nekretnina u vlasništvu nizozemske vlade. Umjesto vode, ovlaživač je u tim zgradama ispuštao maglicu umjetnog znoja. Likvidacija dokumentira povijesnu rasprodaju svake od tih zgrada, koju je država radila zbog profita. Ovlaživač je sablasni i učinkoviti protagonist tog procesa koji spaja sve te prostore i njihovu prolaznost, kao i ekonomije o kojima su ovisili, u jedan hibridni virtualni prostor.
Brianna Leatherbury je umjetnica koja živi u Amsterdamu. Recentni rad započinje istraživanjem koje je istovremeno osobno i strukturalno, a kojim stvar a apstraktne sisteme koji istražuju materijalne posljedice ekonomskih sila kroz osobne, pojedinačne odnose. Kombiniranjem skulpture, performansa i dokumentacije, istraživa[1]njem prisutnosti i bivanja te traganjem za novim mogućnostima odnosa, radovi svjedoče o učincima naših suvremenih ekonomija. Nakon završenog pred[1]diplomskog studija na koledžu Cooper Union u New Yorku, stječe titulu prvostupnika likovnih umjetnosti. Kao stipendistica programa Fullbright u Moskvi bila je na rezidenciji u Galeriji Elektrozavod, a nedavno je boravila i na rezidenciji De Ateliers u Amsterdamu.
Projekt je razvijen kao dio Summer Sessions mreže za razvoj talenata u ko-produkciji Udruge Metamedij i V2_ Laba for the Unstable Media. Međunarodna mreža za razvoj talenata Summer Sessions nudi rezidencije umjetnicima u začetku karijere te produktivnu atmosferu, kvalitetnu produkciju i stručni feedback za pokretanje ili razvoj profesionalnog umjetničkog projekta. Umjetnici imaju priliku svoj rad javno predstaviti u državi članice mreže u kojoj gostuju. Ovogodišnje partnere u mreži čine: V2_Lab for the Unstable Media, Schmiede, Sardegna Teatro, Goethe-Institut, museu zer0, Tabakalera.

The exhibition “Liquidation” by Brianna Leatherbury, a work developed at the Summer Sessions residency, co-produced by the Metamedij Association and V2_ Lab for the Unstable Media, will be opened on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 8 p.m. in the HUiU gallery in Pula.
“Liquidation” is a hybrid site-specific installation and film that documents the Netherland’s dispossession of certain histories and industries through its real estate. The installation consists of a greenhouse humidifier inhabiting several properties owned and auctioned by the Dutch Government online. Instead of water, the humidifier rhythmically fills these buildings with a mist of artificial sweat. Liquidation documents the historical dispossession of each building by its state for profit, with the humidifier as the ghostly and efficient protagonist. It collapses these different spaces and temporalities, as well as the economies they were attached to, into one hybrid virtual space.
Brianna Leatherbury is an artist based in Amsterdam, which recent work begins with research that is both personal and structural. They create abstract systems that explore the material effects of economic forces through individual relationships. Using a combination of sculpture, performance, and documentation, their works are testimonies to the effects of our contemporary economies, interrogating presence and seeking new opportunities of relation. Leatherbury received the BFA from The Cooper Union in New York and completed a Fulbright Student Research award in Moscow, where they also held a residency at Gallery Elektrozavod. They recently participated in De Ateliers in Amsterdam.
This project was developed as part of the Summer Sessions Network for Talent Developement in a co-production of Metamedia and V2_ Lab for the Unstable Media. Summer Sessions is an international network for talent development that offers residency programs for emerging artists, a productive atmosphere, quality production, and professional feedback in jumpstarting or developing professional art projects. Artists have the chance to present their work publicly within the network’s hosting country.
