Metamedia Association is inviting emerging artists working in the fields of new media to apply and join the Summer Sessions international residencies.
Summer Sessions are short-term, international residencies for young artists that are organized by a network of cultural organizations all over the world. During the program artists will work in a highly productive atmosphere in which continuous support, feedback and expert supervision is offered. The main idea of the residencies is to help artists jumpstart their professional practice by offering them support from a local sponsor to go abroad for a production residency at a host institute.
Who can apply?
Artists who are at the early stages of their career (under 35 years of age and/or have graduated no more than 5 years before the time of applying) and are working in the fields of new media and innovative art practices.
Duration
The duration of a residency lasts approximately between 6 – 8 weeks in the period between June 15th and September 30th, 2017. During the period artists will develop a project from concept to presentable work, ready to show.

Financial support
Financial support will be allocated directly to the selected candidate. It includes accommodation and travel fees, production and technical equipment fees and a compensation for the artistic engagement.
How to apply?
Artists can apply by sending a short video explaining their project and the reason why they would like to be part of the Summer Sessions residencies. The application is submitted through the online application form.
- Create a short 2-minute video explaining your project.
- Upload your video to a service like Youtube or Vimeo (it doesn’t have to be public).
- Fill out the online application form to provide your personal details.
The deadline for application is May 15, 2017.
Selection
Pre-selection: after closing the call, sponsors evaluate the applications from their own country and choose whom to grant the support.
Selection: after the pre-selection the hosts evaluate only the applications already selected by the sponsors. The selection will be done at the beginning of June.
Connection: after the selection, sponsors, hosts and the selected artist come up with a decision on where the residency program will be held.
Metamedia Association
Metamedia Association is a non-profit organization that develops youth culture by organizing research, education, production, presentation and promotion on a national and international level. The association was established in 2001 with the goal to establish new conditions for audio and video production and publishing, develop non-institutional youth education in the fields of new media arts and media literacy, and to develop new and innovative projects through cross-sectorial cooperation.
MP3 Platform
MP3 – an open platform for reflection, production and promotion of new media culture in Istria. The platform is a project founded in 2015 with the aim to create the Centre for new media in Istria as well as to monitor the implementation of IKS2 (Istrian Cultural Strategy), especially in the fields of art production and marginalized art practices. The platform is a regional initiative that includes several organizations: Metamedia (Pula), Sonitus (Pula), Apoteka (Vodnjan), LAE (Labin), Faro 11 (Rovinj), Tumpić / Prenc – studio za vizualne komunikacije (Rovinj).
